Let me tell you about Barter Books, I love the place. It's been my go-to place for Books for years, unless I wanted one immediately or it was a brand new release because Alnwick is a bit of a trek away and well its a Second hand bookshop.
Barter Books is like my favourite place on earth the place is cosy yet massive shelves everywhere stacked with books the smell of books and coffee fills the place. Tables and chairs are dotted about so you can take a break from searching all those shelves or you can have lunch in one of the cafes. Barter books is an old Railway station converted into a bookstore, to keep the station theme they have a little train track that goes around the store on top of the shelves with a tiny little steam train on it, children love this feature. The store is famous due to a rare original copy of the Keep Calm and Carry On poster was found there and them then reproducing it and selling copies.
One of the great things about Barter Books is the selection of books, they have something for everyone! I always come out very happy and satisfied, 4 books for a tenner or less yes please! Its even good for families since the childrens section is filled with toys as well as books!
There are so many treasures to be found in here, I could spend a full day there but John wouldn't let me since he's not a huge fan of books.
Its a must visit for any book lover or anyone whos looking for a bit of history or a bargain. I've bought almost all of my Stephen King books from Barter Books, and the value is amazing. If you go be sure to take some books to trade in too if they're in good condition.
