The Tuesday Playlist! #5 // Fall Out Boy Edition

Fall Out Boy have been one of those bands that I love but I also hate, I hate that they made that awful Folie A Deux album I really didn't like that and I hate that they broke up and broke my heart. I hate that they came back with Save Rock and Roll (which I hated until I'd listened to it about a million times) which has the catchiest of tracks filled with major cliches almost as bad as From Under The Cork Tree. I hate that Fall Out Boy still make me fan girl like I'm 13 years old. I hate that they made me cry the first time I saw them, that the second time I saw them I couldn't breath for the first two songs and the third time they made me feel so sad because they were just perfect. Goddammit Fall Out Boy why do you have the catchiest songs, some beautiful band members and play real damn good? Basically I just really fucking love Fall Out Boy but I hate that they turn me into a 13 year old girl. So after taking far too long to decide I finally picked the songs to share here with you! Also this is a long post so I apologise but I just fan girl so bad! *update* Leona pointed out about A Little Less I've forever called it A Little Less Than not A Little Less so I'd change it but to me it's always had a than in, don't ask me why it just has. Haha. I'm too lazy to start calling it, it's proper name haha.

Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner, From Under The Cork Tree (2005) This track was originally on the EP My Heart Will Always Be The B-Side To My Tongue but I decided to just include from the album. This song has some of my all time favourite lyrics ever in it. I mean these ones 'Nothing comes as easy as you. Can I lay in your bed all day? I'll be your best kept secret, and your biggest mistake.' are amazing they just urgh when I hear them I just I do this sigh that's just like urgh it's perfect. Then you have 'So wear me like a locket around your throat. I'll weigh you down. I'll watch you choke.' The song just I don't know why but I've always loved it so hard, I used to think the lyrics about being someones best kept secret were great I mean you'd be their secret and they'd regret it so you'd be their mistake but they'd still keep you their little secret. I loved it. Oh Fall Out Boy your lyrics are the best.

A Little Less Than Sixteen Candles, A Little More ''Touch Me''From Under The Cork Tree (2005) This song is like mine and Sam's song. Well so is Dance Dance but this is the one where we proper fan girled when we heard it because we didn't know if they'd play it live but it's such a good track. The music video is definitely my favourite music video by Fall Out Boy, I miss bands making mini films as music videos, I was so happy when I found out all the tracks from Save Rock And Roll were being made into videos that followed on because Fall Out Boy have always made amazing videos. I love that the video has cameos from other Fueled By Ramen band members of the time it makes it so much better. Also the lyrics are fairly great how can you not love 'You can make all the moves, you can aim all the spotlights. Get all the sighs and the moans just right' I really like the way Patrick sings moans haha.

Chicago Is So Two Years Ago, Take This To Your Gave (2003).
This is just a beautiful song I can't even tell you how much I love it. I just it always gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. I absolutely love Patrick's voice through out the track it's just so beautiful, I love that TTTYG is filled with songs that sound beautiful but have pretty bitter lyrics and this is no exception. I especially love the lyrics 'She took me down and said ''boys like you are overrated, so save your breath.''Just Perfect. They actually played this live when I saw them the second time back in March this year, they played it acoustic and although I was disappointed it wasn't baby I couldn't have been happier. I actually found it here how perfect does it sound honestly? Like seriously I was filled with tears when they were playing it I didn't know what to do with my emotions and thinking of it just gives me so many goosebumps. It sounds like the crowd aren't singing but there were a few people who knew the lyrics but I didn't mind because it meant I could hear Patrick perfectly.

I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You), Infinity On High (2007) This is probably my favourite track from this album no doubt about it. I love the beat and the lyrics are just perfect. Fall Out Boy were once quoted saying this was about as close to a love song as you would get from them and it's true until they released Miss Missing You. I mean you might think that SWGD is a love song but apparently Pete wrote it about the best wank he ever had! Haha. Lyrics wise I just really love the way Patrick says them haha. My favourite ones are 'Collect the bad habits, that you couldn't bare to keep out of the woods, but I love' Like those are really sweet lyrics, it's like who cares if you have bad habits and hate them, stop hiding them 'cause I love them.

Dance DanceFrom Under The Cork Tree (2005) Back in the emo days this song was on Kerrang! every single day at least 3 times, I loved the video so much that I made it my aim to learn the little dance that Pete does in it. Last year at Leeds me and Sam proudly did the Dance Dance, dance haha. I still know it to this day and have to fight the urge to do it every time I hear the song. The lyrics are some of the best I feel like this song just describes when you're having one of those conversations with someone you like and it's just not going how you plan or your dates not going well. That's how I feel about it anyway. My favourite lyrics are definitely 'Why don't you show me a the little bit of spine, you've been saving for his mattress. I only want sympathy in form of you crawling into bed with me.'

Miss Missing You, Save Rock And Roll (2013) In my opinion this a love song, the lyrics are the reason I love it so. I don't have any other reason for loving it aside from that 'cause to be fair the music itself is a little not so Fall Out Boyish. But the lyrics are perfect the ones 'Baby, you were my picket fence, I miss missing you now and then' You dream of the house with the white picket fence you know the American dream and that's what the song is saying whoever it is about was their picket fence everything they dreamed of. But now it's over but they don't miss the person they miss having that person there to miss. I love that the song is a love song but about love being over, and trying to forget about that person and how it's hard but it gets better. I really love the lyrics.

Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today
Take This To Your Gave (2003) My favourite thing about this song is how bitter the lyrics are, they're definitely some of my favourite FOB lyrics to date. Like it's just it's got so much burn in the lyrics like 'Said I loved you but I lied' that's harsh that. But oh man this song is perfect, it's like upbeat with such bitter lyrics like the majority of TTTYG so it's perfect for when you're pissed off with someone haha. I'd love to say 'Let's play this game called ''when you catch fire'' I wouldn't piss to put you out' to someone who really pissed me off but if they weren't a fall out boy fan they wouldn't get it so it would be silly. I also love that this song starts with the telephone dial tone.

Where Did The Party Go?
, Save Rock And Roll (2013) This is such a happy song! I'm not sure if it's meant to be but I find it puts me in a fairly good mood and makes me want to dance about like a little fan girl. This is the song where Pete and Patrick decided that Save Rock and Roll had to happen they got so excited about it and it's when they started to write the rest of the album material and oh I'm just so proud that they got back together after years of not really speaking and this song is perfect. There's two lines in the song that always stick out for me ever since the first time I heard it 'I know I expect too much and not enough all at once' because I feel like these lyrics are me. I always secretly hope and expect people to do something amazing or to do what they say but at the same time I expect them not to do it at all. My favourite line though is 'You know I only wanted fun, then you got me all fucked up on love' like those lyrics are just so perfect. It's like you just wanted a friend to go get drunk with or just to bang or whatever but you accidentally fell for them end up in too deep and that fucked you up. It reminds me of older Fall Out Boy lyrics.

Hum Hallelujah, Infinity On High (2007) The first time I heard this song I liked it but then I heard the choir chorus bit and was like nope that is awful guys why?! But then I listened to it again and like most FOB songs I fell in love with the lyrics. Especially the chorus it's one of the catchiest ones yet 'I thought I loved you, it was just how you looked in the light. A teenage vow in a parking lot, ''Till tonight do us part''' like it could be linked to Pete's overdose but it could also be about how fickle teenagers are in love they think they love someone but it's just how they feel that moment then regret it and want it to end. My other favourite line is 'I love you in the same way, there's a chapel in a hospital, one foot in your bedroom and one foot out the door' This line is brilliant, it's talking about a relationship but one where you can't decide what you want, you want it but you don't so figuratively speaking one foot in the room one foot out.

You actually have no idea how hard it was to pick those songs, I mean yeah I could have gone for favourites such as Sugar We're Going Down and Thnks Fr Th Mmrs but these songs mean more to me than ones that I find super catchy and just love because they're amazing. I hope you don't hate me for missing out Folie A Deux but I just really really hate that album. I like 2 songs off it, I have no idea why I hate it I just do, just don't ask me about it haha. But yeah if you haven't heard the classic Fall Out Boy songs in this playlist where were you in 2007? As for the newer ones go give them a listen, it took me a while to adjust but Patrick's voice still sounds amazing and I love all the cliche lyrics.
Do you like Fall Out Boy?

  1. You and Liam need to sit and have a chat because he was Fall Out Boy's biggest fan boy. His favourite song is Tell That Mick... but I never understood why because I really don't like that song (sorry!). I'm actually a massive fan of tunes like Hum Hallelujah and The Take Over The Breaks Over is one of my faves!

This is such a sweet fangirl post, I'm loving it!! X

  2. This is an amazing read - I love how much detail you go into for each song. Picking my favourite would be torture. I actually really like Save Rock and Roll, I've heard people complain it's not 'like the old stuff', but there are definitely elements still there - the songwriting and Patrick's amazing voice, for a start! FOB forever <3
